Just for Kids

SCUBA RANGERS is not just a diving course, it can also be a long term activity if they want to become part of a SCUBA RANGERS Club! During the club sessions they learn about our environment, get more diving experience and have a fun time together. They will try underwater photography or night diving with torches in the swimming pool, visit zoos and aquariums, go to the cinema or take part in other challenging activities.SRangers_M4_cmyk-ai

Their safety is a top priority. SCUBA RANGERS programs can only be taught by specially trained instructors in a pool (or under confined water conditions in a protected area) up to a maximum depth of 4 metres (12 feet). In depths greater than 1.50 metres (5 feet) there is a one-to-two instructor-to-student ratio.

Scuba Rangers Instructors

SSI Instructors are only allowed to teach if they are affiliated with an SSI Facility. This concept--unique in the industry--allows direct monitoring of all active SSI Dive Professionals to ensure high quality education.

The Scuba Ranger Instructors who teach children diving school courses have not only been deemed excellent divers by our strict SSI standards, they have also had special training in how to teach diving to children specifically. During the Scuba Rangers sessions and club activities, safety always comes first; the instructor-student ratio is always respected, and sufficient medical resources are always close at hand.

SSI Dive Centers and Scuba Rangers

Scuba Rangers Clubs must meet SSI’s high level of quality; therefore, all Dive Centers hosting the program must meet SSI’s Dealer Standards.

You know your children are in good hands with SSI programs, because the following standards must be met by our Dive Centers in order to become a licensed Scuba Rangers Club:

  • The Dive Center must be a retail, recreational or educational facility, or resort
  • The Dive Center must provide scuba equipment that meets ANSI. RSTC, and ISO Standards for scuba training
  • The Dive Center must provide a professional image and fun Club atmosphere
  • The Dive Center must conduct a minimum of four Club events per year, not including Scuba Rangers Specialties
  • The Dive Center must have access to a compressed air system that delivers quality breathing air
  • The Dive Center must have an active status Scuba Rangers Instructor on staff to conduct Scuba Rangers events
  • The Dive Center must have no ethics or Standards violations pending or any verified ethics or Standards violations in the past 12 months with Scuba Rangers or any other training program
  • The Dive Center must conduct an operation with a commitment to high quality
  • The Dive Center must have an active Club Monitor on staff
  • The Dive Center must monitor and oversee Scuba Rangers Instructors and Assistants using the Scuba Rangers Monitor’s Assessment Procedures, or a Scuba Rangers Headquarters-approved alternative program
  • The Dive Center must use official Scuba Rangers training materials when teaching Scuba Rangers

SSI’s Scuba Rangers program is the perfect way to introduce your child to the wonders of diving in a safe, fun, encouraging way. Look for Scuba Rangers locations around the globe in our Dive Directory.

SSI’s Scuba Rangers program is one of the world’s best-developed scuba and snorkeling programs for children. Diving school designed for children aged 7 to 12, Scuba Rangers classes are safe, taught only by instructors specifically trained in the Rangers program, and will introduce your child to the wonders of the water in a gentle, multi-faceted manner.

The SCUBA RANGERS Philosophy

To keep it simple and fun, we have designed the SCUBA RANGERS Star, which defines the five points of a successful SCUBA RANGER:

Proper Knowledge:Rangers must learn the rules of responsible diving.

Proper Skills:Rangers must learn and practice basic scuba skills.

Proper Equipment:Rangers must learn to use basic scuba equipment, and should own snorkeling equipment, and properly maintain and care for all equipment.

Proper Experience:Rangers should maintain diving proficiency, dive within their limits, and continue to learn more about scuba and water exploration.

Training:Scuba Rangers begin out of the water, focusing on becoming comfortable with the idea of diving, and learning about breathing, helping peers, and becoming familiar with equipment.

Training is broken out in 5 different levels. The kids are taught the skills and knowledge they need to become safe and successful divers in a fun yet controlled environment.

Get your children excited about moving up the Scuba Ranger ladder! Rangers get a ribbon tied around their snorkel for each level they complete, contributing to their feeling of success and ownership.

Step 1: Red Ranger – Kids demonstrate their swimming skills and learn how to snorkel with a mask, a snorkel and fins. How to help other children is also emphasized. And most importantly, so is having fun!

Step 2: White Ranger – Would be divers are introduced to diving equipment. What are these things for and how do we use them? Rangers then go into the pool with equipment for the first time.

Step 3: Blue Ranger – Rangers learn new diving exercises in the pool such as how to float in the water.

Step 4: Silver Ranger – Children play games underwater while wearing diving equipment to increase their comfort and practice the diving techniques they’ve learned so far.

Step 5: Demo Ranger – Your proud children are able to “teach” diving to parents, siblings, and friends by doing demonstrations of the skills they’ve learned.

After completing the Demo Ranger level, students can become Scuba Ranger Club members, and receive an official membership card. Kids become part of a network of Scuba Rangers, who can then swim together, talk about scuba, and go on field trips to aquariums or movies about ocean life. Scuba Rangers may then also “Specialize.” See the sidebar on fun Scuba Rangers Specialties.

Many SSI Resorts also offer Scuba Rangers Diving Trips. It’s a great way to inspire your child and provide you with an unforgettable family vacation.

Scuba Rangers is FUN.

If you struggle to get your child interested in anything, why not try out childrens diving school through the time-tested Scuba Rangers program? Through an exciting tier system that Scuba Rangers get excited to climb, as well as trips to aquariums, study of underwater species, films of the wonders at the bottom of the ocean, and fun educational materials like coloring books, Scuba Rangers becomes an activity that kids can’t wait to get back too.
